On the 22nd of September we completed an activity in groups of four. The activity was that we were supposed to come up with and ethical or sustainable fashion product or service. My group and I came up with a lot of different ideas. From this activity I learned how to communicate and collaborate with my group. It was a bit of a challenge because my group had ideas that were different to my ideas. My original idea was to create an app were you could customise your clothing using sustainable material. One of the members of my group wanted to create an app where you could sell and buy vintage items and get credit on the app which allows you to be able to purchase more items. Another group member wanted to create an app where influencers sell their clothing items. The one thing we had in common was that we all wanted to do a fashion service that was accessible through an electronic device.
We talked and explained our ideas to one another. I am usually the kind of person that talks a lot and loves to share their ideas. Instead I had to listen to what others wanted to say. I learned to collaborate with them in order to come up with our final idea which was a mixture of our three separate ideas. I also learned a lot from the presentation we had in the beginning of class where Mr. Giles talked to us about fashion sustainability and technology. I realised how technology is a helpful tool that could help us to solve the ongoing issue within the fashion industry which is the amount of pollution fashion creates. I learned that social media is an important tool because we can use it to spread awareness and promote ethical brands. Using recycled material such as bedsheets or curtains or even from old clothing is also a sustainable way to make new garments. This activity helped open my eyes to the opportunities and possibilities that the fashion industry has to create whilst protecting out planet.
